When Riverside Furniture acquired the 70,000-square foot former YMCA at the corner of South Main and Russell, company CEO Fred Henjes had out-of-the-box plans for his company’s future High Point flagship.
Collaborating with local award-winning architects Freeman Kennett on the vision, they managed to honor the architectural heritage of the c.1925 structure – for example, get a glimpse of the Y’s original pool through the showroom’s glass-paneled floor.
Completed in 2021, the company’s High Point HQ consists of a multi-level 35,000 square foot exhibit space, product development workspace, offices for the design and marketing teams, plus indoor and outdoor hospitality areas.
A fashion-forward leader in the midpriced furniture market, Riverside’s focus is on style, quality and innovation, with full collections and occasional pieces that span transitional to contemporary looks and a variety of finishes and materials. Functionality is an important feature as a selection of pieces incorporate storage, built-in lighting and flexibility.
Evolving since 1946, Riverside Furniture has enjoyed longtime partnerships with retailers and ecommerce platforms, and more recently began to serve designers, further reinforcing its adaptability in a dynamic market. The showroom, which is ADA accessible, is open weekdays by appointment from 9am-4pm with parking at the Wrenn Street entrance. Product ships from Gibsonville, NC and there is no opening minimum.
