DESIGNER Q&A: TAKE FIVE
LISA SHERRY is a top Charlotte designer, but her work really transcends time in place. She’s known for her fearless use of color – that is, not much of it. Lisa’s neutral palettes sing with complexity and interest. Texture and pattern add layer upon layer of interest and organic charm. She knows the streets of High Point and the HPxD showrooms well. We admire her style, her design following and her ready insights on what’s hot and what’s not. Lisa is the founder and principal designer at her eponymous firm, Lisa Sherry Interieurs.
#1 AS HIGH POINT OPENS UP YEAR-ROUND, CAN YOU DESCRIBE WHAT SHOPPING HIGH POINT WITH A CLIENT MIGHT LOOK LIKE?
“My first reaction is, no, cannot imagine it! I’m based in Charlotte and design everywhere. I typically don’t shop with clients. They want me to be the filter and lead the plan. Shopping would be burden to many! But, I can see a potential. For example, Verellen is always my first (second and third) choice for upholstery. The showroom an amazing expression of the brand – the people and products. If a customer is unsure about a Verellen specification, a showroom visit might make the difference. Such wonderful koolaide!” LS
#2 YOU’RE SPEAKING TO AN ALIEN CREATURE WHO CAN PERFECTLY UNDERSTAND FACTS BUT NOT FEELINGS. DESCRIBE THE HIGH POINT VIBE
“Aliens from another planet? They may feel at home in High Point! Seriously, what I mean is, High Point is haute couture meets barbecue. It’s an array of curiosities, during Market and off-Market too. Remember, juxtapositions are a thing with me!” LS
#3 IN THE SPIRIT OF WHERE’S WALDO, WHAT THING OR PRINCIPLE IS PRESENT IN ALL YOUR WORK?
“I’m known for neutral palettes, an abundance of light, surprises and juxtapositions. I love to layer, layer, layer and then edit, edit, edit!” LS
#4 WHAT DOES A GREAT SHOWROOM EXPERIENCE PROVIDE YOU AS A DESIGN PRO?
“At the end of day, my clients are going to live with my designs and the myriad of items I specify. My spaces engage all the senses. So – seems obvious! – the showroom experience – seeing feeling, touching product in person is pretty fundamental. I’ll add, personal relationships with suppliers are best built in person.” LS
#5 THEY SAY EVERYONE HAS A SUPER POWER. WHAT’S YOURS?
“I see through walls! I see what is AND what can be.” LS
