Years ago, a young man found himself in need of a sofa. Both of Bill Lancaster’s grandfathers had been in the furniture business. Genetics seemed on his side. He thought, I can do this. And so he did, creating the first piece of Lancaster upholstery from scratch – frame to fabrication – in the confines of his apartment. One sofa and one great beginning.
Today, Bill and team design and make fine upholstered furniture from scratch and by hand at Lancaster’s workroom in Archdale, adjacent to High Point. Lancaster forms are fresh and modern, informed by classic silhouettes and smartly engineered for a “sit” that never disappoints. Lancaster tailoring and needlework are equally distinctive. Fabric and leather options are impressive – with a bit of a penchant for tactile linens and embossed leathers – and COMs are always welcome.
